14 August, 2003:
Above and below, pictures of some leftover fabrics I got
from Daniel's mam. The first one would be nice for curtains, posh
furniture, or even wallpaper, and the second one would be great for
something in the 70's style! Maybe a sofa..
I've been making a different little house today.. A cat
house! We bought another new PC recently, and our cats seemed to love the
box it came in. I don't really like the look of brown cardboard boxes, so
I thought wouldn't it be nice to make a proper little house for the
cats... Well, it was a fantastic day today, so I took the box to the
garden and started cutting, taping, gluing and painting. Eventually, I got
most of it done, and the cats have already checked it out, and even taken
naps in there! I uploaded pictures to my catbox page, but you can see one pic below. It's not
completely finished yet, I'm probably going to add another coat of paint
on the roof, decorate the corners, and add some other details like a tiny
mailbox, etc.. It's a shame I didn't have the camera ready when our bigger
cat went in through the window, and got stuck for a while!! He looked so
funny, with his long white legs hanging out the little window.. LOL

12 August, 2003:
There were four MDF bits in those joinery leftovers, which I
can use to make a roombox. The bits are not an exact match (and I've no
tools to do anything about it), but close enough - I'll mask the gaps
somehow. See the picture above (I've only put the box together for the
picture, so far only the back wall is glued to the floor. I need to find a
small drill bit before I attach the side walls)
After taking out the box bits, here's what else I got from
the joinery! Quite nice, considering it was all free =)
Below, the smallest bits.. I could make a computer..
I actually made some
miniature items yesterday, but they are for a Finnish mini group's soft
toy swap, so I won't say more about them just yet. Once the swap is over
and other participants know what everyone made, I'll post pictures and
instructions. |
10 August, 2003:
I met up with another Finnish net friend (and her family)
yesterday when they stopped in Bray on their way to Waterford. When they
left, I stayed on the Seafront for a while and collected some pebbles.
These pictures are mainly of those pebbles. I cleaned them and put them in
a jar, which I then filled with water as water makes their colours look
even nicer.
Below, some riverbank stones
as well. The middle one turned out to be an almost square bit of smoky
glass! It was so dirty that I'd thought it was a stone. But this is even
better, now I'll get a window for something! LOL
And the picture below is of a plastic bit I found in our
back garden! I can think of many things to use it for.. For example, if I
painted it with silver paint, it could become a kitchen sink. Or, it could
be a display box in a little shop..

8 August, 2003:
I met a Finnish net friend for morning coffee at Molloy's,
and as I was walking home I noticed lots of wooden bits in front of
Cronan's Joinery... I got a plastic bag from home, and returned to the
scene (heh), asking the man who worked in the joinery whether I could
collect some leftover pieces.. He told me to help myself, so I got some
nice pieces of wood, MDF, etc. (pic above). He also told me that their
father had made a miniature dining table and chairs for his sister, years
and years ago! He described it, and it sounded lovely - he didn't know
which scale it was, but it sounded something closer to "Barbie scale". He
said his sister still has it, in England. On my way home, I also
collected some nice stones from the riverbank. |
12 July, 2003: I was going through some old
stuff, and found a bag of wooden bits that looked so tempting.. As if they
were meant to become little shelves and such, to my dollhouse.. I asked
Daniel if I could use them, and he said sure, only it was a wooden puzzle
he'd bought some years ago! I wanted to have a go at putting it all
together, and managed to make this:
Tadaa!
Then I took it apart again,
and started playing with the bits.. Hmmm.. How about a table and benches,
like they have outside some pubs..
I was tempted to glue this together! But the puzzle itself
was so nice that I'm not sure if I want to use the bits for something else
now.. You could say I'm puzzled! (Lame joke) But the puzzle wasn't all
I found - there were also some bags and boxes under the stairs, which had
been there since we moved here from Galway! I found lots of my stuffed
toys, some clothes, etc.. And my Nikko off-roader! (Ignore the horrible
carpet..)
We charged its battery right
away, and have been racing it all over the house and garden.. LOL I was
even thinking of maybe making a little driver doll... And there was a
bag with some old make-up and stuff, including some green, silver and
purple stars I had bought years ago in Finland, for making cards and such!
I might yet use them for a little disco someday as I already have two
dollhouse size mirror balls, and some other stuff for that project...
Earlier on tonight, I was
messing with the digicam downstairs, mainly taking more "funny face"
pictures (yes.. I have a whole
site for that purpose! LOL). But while at it, I also took a
picture I've been planning for ages - myself sitting on a chair. I cut
that detail off, and inserted it in a photo I'd previously taken of my
dollhouse living room! It looked better with the dollhouse room mirrored -
I was too lazy to actually organise the dollhouse furniture and take a
more suitable picture.. heh.. So, you can see that picture on the front
page - click
here if you didn't notice it! |
