DOLLHOUSE IN A DOLLHOUSE:

Mini chest, about to become a dollhouse

Having made the tiny chair (see a page about it in the mini menu), I made a little table, too. From the same stick. But then I wanted to see them in a mini house, so I took the mini chest from my dollhouse nursery, and started painting it. I painted all ceilings white, the upstairs and downstairs hall got a red carpet (painted) and pale yellow walls, living room and kitchen got brown walls and pinkish brown floor (I know, strange combination), bathroom became all white, and the bedroom has bright pink carpet and pale pink walls.

From another angle..

After taking the first pictures, I decided to make a bathroom as well, since I already had everything at hand.. You can see my tiny toilet seat, sink and bath tub, in the following pictures. They are all made of the same stick than the chair and the table. For the mirror, I cut a tiny piece of paper and covered it with foil. That made a nice and thin little mirror, which I glued on the wall using paper glue stick. Other bits are also glued in their places.

I couldn't stop.. A few hours later, I've made fake stairs of cardboard strips. I glued them together, then covered the stairs with paper, which I painted dark brown. Then I glued the stairs in the back of the downstairs hall. There's no hole to upstairs, but I painted the top step with same dark brown, on the floor in upstairs hall. I also made a railing of match sticks, and painted it dark brown as well. For decoration, the upstairs hall has a dry looking plant and a picture on the wall. The plant is made of ribbon, and the flower pot is just painted cardboard. The picture is from RTÉ Guide (Irish TV magazine), and I've glued it on the wall with a sticker that was meant for glass tiles.

The bedroom is just temporary, and the picture isn't very good. I decided to make a fake bed, by glueing two cardboard ends on top of each other, creating false depth to the room and that way leaving more floor space for other stuff. I just made the original bed a bit too big, so I had to chop the legs off and narrow it a bit after painting, which didn't leave it good enough, so I'll make a new one.

I also thought that the living room was a bit boring, so I made a fake bookshelf, of cardboard. The cardboard had three layers, so I peeled off the top one from where the books are, leaving the wavy layer showing - and I painted different colour stripes for books. The shelf is painted blue, to go with the chair and table. I think it makes the room look deeper.

I've left doors and windows out as they'd only require some empty space around them, and there's not that much space to start with. I might paint windows on the exterior walls, though, I'm not sure.. And there will be a little roof garden, I've already painted it lawn green.

In the next pictures, the kitchen units I cut out of cardboard. I painted and polished them, and then glued them in place. I'm not sure what else will go in the kitchen, possibly a tiny table and benches, or more working space.. After all, there's already a table and chair in the living room.

General view now

The next thing to do: kitchen table (yes, I ended up making a table, anyway). There were no sticks around, for carving, so I thought I'd cut some match stick bits and glue them together. I'm nearly out of super glue, so the glue job ended up a bit twisted, but the table will do for now.. It just needs painting.
